Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Hour! 1 What is the Inevitable Hour? 2 And what would make you realize what the sure calamity is! 3 Thamood and Aad belied the Clatterer. 4 But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! 5 and as for Ad, they were destroyed by a wind clamorous, 6 Which He sent to assail them for seven nights and eight days running. You should have seen the people prostrate like the decayed trunks of date-palm trees. 7 Do you see any remnants of them? 8 Similarly, Pharaoh, and those before him, and the ruined villages, sinned 9 and they rebelled against the Messenger of their Lord, and He seized them with a surpassing grip. 10 Surely We bore you up in the ship when the water rose high, 11 so that We might make it an instructive event for you, and retentive ears might preserve its memory. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 and heaven shall be split, for upon that day it shall be very frail, 16 and will turn frail, losing all force. The angels will be around the heavens and on that day eight of them will carry the Throne of your Lord above all the creatures. 17 That Day shall you be brought to Judgement, not a secret of you will be hidden. 18 On that Day, he whose Record is given to him in his right hand will say: “Lo! Read my Record! 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 And he will be in a life of Bliss, 21 In an elevated garden, 22 its fruits are near. 23 Such people will be told, "Eat and drink with pleasure as the reward for what you did in the past". 24 And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me! 25 And had not known what is my account. 26 "I wish, would that it had been my end (death)! 27 My riches have availed me not; 28 “All my power has vanished.” 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 then in a chain seventy arm's lengths long insert him. 32 He did not believe in Allah, the Great, 33 nor did he feel any urge to feed the needy, 34 so today he has no friend here, 35 Nor any food except filth from the washing of wounds, 36 Which none but the wrongdoers eat. 37
