The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 save those that pray 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
