The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 they see it as being far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 surely the chastisement of their Lord is a thing none can feel secure from – 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
