The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it near. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 except those that pray 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's torment 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
