In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
