In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 (a half of it, or diminish a little, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
