In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
