Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
