In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
