In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
