The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ ALIF LAM RA. These are the verses of the Book and the perspicuous oration. 1 A time will surely come when those who are bent on denying the truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God, 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy life and let false hopes amuse them. They will soon come to know. 3 And We destroyed no township but there was a known decree for it. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And yet they say: "You, to whom this Exposition has been sent are surely possessed of the Devil. 6 Why do you not bring to us the angels if you are of the truthful ones? 7 We send not the angels down except for just cause: if they came (to the ungodly), behold! no respite would they have! 8 Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian. 9 We sent Messengers to the ancient people who lived before you. 10 But no Messenger came to them except he was mocked. 11 Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals. 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They would surely say: "Our eyes have been (as if) dazzled. Nay, we are a people bewitched." 15
