In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or increase thereto. And intone the Qur'an with measured intonations. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
