The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
