The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
