The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
