The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
