The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And stay away from idols. 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
