The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and defilement flee! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He looked (at others); 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
