The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 arise and give warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
