O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
