The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
