The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
