The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 Pollution shun! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
