Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning for people -- 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 “What took you into the hell?” 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 Until the certainty (of death) had come upon us. 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
