I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As though they were frightened asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 In fact every one of them wants to be given open books (like the prophets). 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whosoever will (let him read it), and receive admonition (from it)! 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
