Nay, by the moon, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 Till death overtook us. 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay! it is surely an admonition. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
