By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 A warning to mankind, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 About the criminals, 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Nay; every one of them desires that he may be given pages spread out; 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
