▼ 74 The Hidden Secret
Al-Muddath-thir 2 of 2
Nay! By the moon 32 By the receding night 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
