Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 by the brightening dawn, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mortals, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another, 40 about the sinners. 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 until certainty came upon us [in death]." 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
