No, by the moon! 32 And the night when it departs, 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 surely it is one of the greatest things 35 a warning to humankind, 36 to whoever among you desires to go forward, or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 in Gardens they will question 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 we indulged in vain arguments along with those who indulged in them; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 No, indeed they have no fear of the Everlasting Life. 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
