The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
There surely came over man a period of time when he was a thing not worth mentioning. 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily, We have prepared for the disbelievers iron chains, iron collars, and a blazing Fire. 4 Indeed the virtuous will drink from a cup, containing a mixture of Kafoor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him, 8 (Saying): "We feed you seeking Allah's Countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire; 12 Reclining therein on raised couches, they shall find therein neither (the severe heat of) the sun nor intense cold. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 drawn from a spring (in Paradise) called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
