50 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Backbiter (Al-Hummazah) before Q (Qaaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the winds sent forth with beneficence. 1 And by the winds that blow violently, 2 Which scatter clouds to their destined places, 3 And the scattering winds scattering. 4 and then giving forth a reminder, 5 To cut off all excuses or to warn; 6 What is promised will surely come to pass. 7 Thus, [it will come to pass] when the stars are effaced, 8 and when the sky is rent asunder, 9 and the mountains scattered, 10 And when the time comes for raising the little girls (buried alive) -- 11 For what Day are these signs postponed? 12 For the Day of sorting out (the men of Paradise from the men destined for Hell). 13 And what will explain to you what is the Day of sorting out? 14 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 15 Did We not destroy the ancients 16 and let the latter follow them? 17 Thus deal We ever with the guilty. 18 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 19 Did We not create you from a base fluid 20 Then We placed it in a secure resting-place, 21 For a known period (determined by gestation)? 22 For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things). 23 Woe on that Day to those that give the lie to the Truth! 24 Did We not make the earth a receptacle, 25 for the living and the dead, 26 And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water. 27 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 28 Depart to that which you belied! 29 “Move towards the shadow of the smoke having three branches.” 30 which neither gives shade nor protects one from the flames. 31 and throwing up sparks as huge as towers 32 and yellow camels. 33 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! 34 that Day on which they will not [be able to] utter a word, 35 nor be allowed to proffer excuses! 36 Alas the woe that day for those who deny! 37 That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)! 38 and if you [think that you] have a subterfuge left, try to outwit Me!" 39 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 40
