Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the winds sent forth with beneficence. 1 by (the angels) as swift as blowing winds, 2 And scatter (things) far and wide; 3 Then by those that clearly differentiate the right and wrong. 4 And then by those that instil Remembrance into the hearts. 5 As justification or warning, 6 that which you have been promised shall be fulfilled. 7 When the stars are obliterated, 8 and when the sky is rent asunder, 9 And when the mountains are blown away; 10 And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed - 11 For what day has the term [of all this] been set? 12 For the Day of Decision. 13 What will explain to you what the Day of Judgement is? 14 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies! 15 Did We not destroy many a nation of the earlier times? 16 Then caused the latter folk to follow after? 17 So We serve the sinners. 18 Woe on that day to the rejecters. 19 Created We you not of water despicable, 20 Then We placed it in a secure resting-place, 21 till a known term decreed? 22 Then We facilitated (your birth). How well do We calculate! 23 Woe on that Day to those who belied it! 24 Have We not made the earth a receptacle, 25 Of the living and the dead? 26 And have placed therein firm and tall mountains and given you to drink of water fresh 27 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 28 (It will be said to the disbelievers): "Depart you to that which you used to deny! 29 Proceed to a shadow rising in three columns: 30 that will offer no [cooling] shade and will be of no avail against the flame 31 The fire will shoot out sparks as big as huge towers 32 "As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)." 33 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 34 This is the day on which they shall not speak, 35 Nor shall they be permitted so that they might excuse themselves. 36 Woe, that Day, to the deniers. 37 This is the Day of Decision; We have gathered you and all the earlier men. 38 So if you have a plan, plan against Me (now). 39 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 40
