The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
