The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
