The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 It will be a place of return 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
