The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
