The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
