The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 for the rebellious ones and they will live therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
