The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
