The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 We raised over you several secure (skies), 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
