The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 And by those who gently draw out the souls of the blessed, 2 By the lone stars floating, 3 by those that outstrip them suddenly, 4 and by those who regulate events. 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 Followed by the second blast, 7 Hearts that Day will be in agitation; 8 [and] their eyes downcast... 9 They say (now): "What! shall we indeed be returned to (our) former state? 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 [And] they add, "That, then, would be a return with loss!" 12 So that is not but a single shout. 13 So they will immediately be in an open plain. 14 Has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled - 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 Then he shewed him the great sign. 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 He then turned away, striving in his effort. 22 then he mustered 23 And then said, “I am your most supreme lord.” 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 surely there is in this a lesson for the God-fearing. 26
