The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the angels who violently tear-out the souls of the disbelievers from their bodies, 1 By the angels who release with gentle release. 2 And those who glide swimmingly, 3 And who quickly present themselves. 4 And direct affairs by command, 5 On the day when the first trump resoundeth. 6 to be followed by further [convulsions], 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 Eyes be lowered in submission. 9 They say: shall we indeed be restored to the first state, 10 even after we have been reduced to bones, hollow and rotten?” 11 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding. 12 But it shall be only a single scare, 13 And lo! they all shall appear on the surface. 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called to him in Tuwa's holy vale? 16 "Go to the Pharaoh who has become refractory, 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 Then Moses (went to Pharaoh and) showed him the Great Sign; 20 but he cried lies, and rebelled, 21 Then he turned back striving. 22 So he gathered the people, and proclaimed. 23 And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest." 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 Truly there is a lesson in this for those who fear (the consequences). 26
