The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 and gently take it away; 2 And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), 3 Then those who are foremost going ahead, 4 And then they manage the affair, 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 hearts will undergo terrible trembling, 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 They say: shall we indeed be restored to the first state, 10 When we have become bones decayed! 11 and they say, "That indeed would be a losing return." 12 But it will be only a single blow, 13 And lo! they will be awakened. 14 Hast thou received the story of Moses? 15 When his Lord called him in the holy valley of Tuwa. 16 "Go thou to Pharaoh for he has indeed transgressed all bounds: 17 Then say: Have you (a desire) to purify yourself: 18 And I will guide you to your Lord so that you should fear. 19 Then he shewed him the great sign. 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 Then he turned back striving. 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 And said, "I am your most exalted lord." 24 So Allah, seized him with punishment for his last [i.e. his saying: "I am your lord, most high") (see Verse 79:24)] and first [(i.e. his saying, "O chiefs! I know not that you have a god other than I" (see Verse 28:38)] transgression. 25 In this there is a lesson for those who have fear of God. 26
