The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the pluckers (the angels of death), violently plucking (the souls of the unbelievers), 1 And [by] those who remove with ease 2 by the swimmers (angels) swimming gently 3 and those that outstrip suddenly 4 by those that direct an affair! 5 On the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world], 6 followed by the succeeding, 7 Hearts will pound loudly on that day, 8 and eyes will be humbly cast down. 9 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state 10 "What! - when we shall have become rotten bones?" 11 and they say, "That indeed would be a losing return." 12 But it shall be only a single scare, 13 and lo, they will all be in the open plain. 14 Has Moses' story reached you? 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh), verily, he has transgressed all bounds (in crimes, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.). 17 and say, 'Will you reform yourself? 18 Then I shall guide thee unto thy Lord so that thou shalt fear. 19 Moses showed him the great sign, 20 In response, he denied and disobeyed. 21 Then he turned away in a hurry, 22 And he summoned all his people, 23 and proclaimed, "I am your supreme Lord," 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 Most surely there is in this a lesson to him who fears. 26
