He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
