He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
