He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
