He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
