He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
